Your Feng Shui & Green Design Question

Q - I am the owner of a business and I recently read that Feng Shui can help considerably in bringing balance and harmony into one's life.  In simple terms, can you explain its principles and how it will benefit me and my business?

A - Feng Shui, (pronounced Fung Shway) which literally means “Wind & Water” two natural elements that flow and circulate the earth, is an ancient philosophy, science and art that shows us how our environments can affect how the energy flows or does not flow in a space. It teaches us about the dynamic relationship between humans and our environments and allows us to see that where we live and where we work can affect us physically and emotionally. Consciously arranging furniture in a space, in order to harness and manipulate the energy goes to create a healthy and peaceful flow that benefits both the nervous system and promotes clarity. Environments that are visually appealing and physically comfortable create positive energy and a sense of balance and are more likely to make you happy, creative and productive. De-clutter, de-clutter, de-clutter; clutter attracts stagnant energy and the combination of grime; dirt and clutter automatically blocks the flow of energy.

If you want to promote financial flow; optimal health; good relationships, then unblock the Ch’i. It is important to remember that in business you should take into account the triple bottom line, People, Planet and Profit. That is to say that financial performance is no longer the only measure of a company’s success but environmental and social performance is a significant part of the equation Q - I am interested in Green Design and incorporating some environmentally friendly products into my office and home, do you have any tips and suggestions for a more sustainable lifestyle Look at introducing an energetic life force into your space by way of a healthy Plant. Plants are natural filters that inhale the toxins and carbons in our environment and exhale oxygen, creating a healthy space in which to live or work. In Feng Shui they represent the Wood Element which promotes Wealth, if you are looking for prosperity, introduce one today!

Q - I am interested in Green Design and incorporating some environmentally-friendly  products into my home and office.  Do you have any tips or suggestions for a more sustainable life style?

A - Choose a ventilation system with a Hepa Filter which removes dust, dirt and pollutants from your environment. When choosing paint for interior redecoration, be sure to choose a low or zero VOC paint; Volatile Organic Compounds cause off-gassing. A great source is Benjamin Moore Eco-Spec and is widely available.

Be kind to the planet and promote well being. Unplug electrical equipment when not in use. Sitting in close proximity to omitting EMF (Electric Magnetic Fieldscan) affect one’s vision, hearing, emotions and immune system and studies have shown that elevated EMF levels can make you susceptible to serious diseases. It is suggested to place all electrical equipment (facsimile machine, photocopy machine etc.,) in an enclosed space and not in work areas. Swap out the lights! Fluorescent bulbs are very harsh and studies show that this type of lighting affects your emotions and physical health; continued use of such a bulb is known to display hyperactivity; irritability and fatigue and often difficulty in being able to concentrate. Swap out the fluorescent bulbs, with full spectrum light bulbs, these are the nearest to natural light as is possible, I highly recommend Vita-Lite developed by Dr.Ott
