What is Jr Moxxie?
Jr Moxxie is a one-of-a-kind mentoring program which provides female college students with a competitive edge. Its membership is considered a privilege as well as a responsibility. Select college students are given unique opportunities to meet, be mentored by and network with successful, seasoned women from the corporate, non-profit and entrepreneurial fields. Moxxie Network oversees the mentor/mentee relationship to ensure appropriate, consistent and professional business & personal growth.
What are the guidelines for being a Moxxie Mentor?
1) initial face-to-face meeting with your mentee
2) subsequent face-to-face meetings at least once every 3 months
3) connect with mentee via email/text at least once a month
4) attend at least two Moxxie Network events with your mentee
5) bring your mentee to at least 2 networking meetings (can be board/committee meetings)
6) invite your mentee to your workplace or to visit a client
7) complete the monthly and year-end surveys
How does Moxxie Network support the Mentors?
Moxxie conducts a mandatory 2-hour Mentor Training Class for all mentors to meet each other and learn the basics of mentoring. We also facilitate monthly conference calls among the mentors to discuss common challenges and specific issues. Moxxie also schedules monthly Field Trips and quarterly guest speaker presentations for the students. Mentors are encouraged to attend but it is not required.
How long is the commitment?
About one year, usually February/March through December/January. Each year new students are brought into the program and we begin anew.
What if I never mentored before?
No worries. Moxxie guides you step-by-step so that you never feel alone and unsure about what to do. If you are presented with a situation that you are unprepared, uncomfortable or ill-equipped to handle, Moxxie will step in and assist.
What colleges participate?
Thus far, the following colleges are working with Moxxie: CW Post/LIU, Molloy College and Adelphi University. We anticipate at least 2 more joining this year.
How do the colleges select their Jr Moxxies?
Each college has different requirements and Moxxie does not participate in their selection process. However, we instruct each college to provide students that are seriously interested in actively participating.
What if my mentee and I are not a good match?
There is no reason to feel uncomfortable about requesting that we re-assign your mentee to a better suited mentor. Our goal is provide the best suited mentor/mentee pairs for the best possible outcome.
Do I have to be a Moxxie Network member to become a mentor?
Yes. Annual membership dues is as follow:
